anticipating the surprise…

*MILESTONE ALERT*

My partner and I signed the first set of papers tonight that get us one step closer to getting the adoption hearing schedule!!  Lord-willing, the 45 day timer will start in the next week.

AND as it turns out… we should be able to move the adoption hearing to earlier in August.  Yes, please!

A peek into our lives the past few weeks…

Waiting 4 additional weeks to have the goodbye visit with the bio family has provided extra time to think about what will happen and to watch our kiddos process what feels like an eternity of time in the gray.

While in the car this past weekend, big brother told us he wanted to move back to the old town.  When asked what he missed he talked about an old house (that is now rented by another family) and toys he misses that have since been donated.  We are grateful for our support system that helps us craft gentle probing questions to help our children talk about their memories and feelings.  We know big brother is thriving where he is but we also embrace that he also remembers the past and needs a warm and caring environment to process his memories.  My prayer is that this will always ring true.

While tucking little sister in bed tonight she asked me to stay and sleep with her.  I explained it is against the rules. (foster parents cannot sleep in the same bed as a child in foster care)  She insisted.  I gave her another hug and told her I couldn’t yet but come September the rules change. She asked why and I told her I had a surprise for her.  She squealed at the mention of a surprise.

Big brother has requested to know how donuts are made.  A very important process to observe.  For the drive to the goodbye visit we are going to stop by Krispy Kreme in Kansas City and watch the donut making magic in action.  Carrot found.
