totally didn’t anticipate any of this…

TGIF couldn’t be more appropriate this week.

Yesterday I received news that bio mom was released from prison.  My immediate reaction… as was my husband’s… was “What?!” In case you are fuzzy on the details (because there are so many) she was supposed to be in for 4 months with a release date of July-ish.  My immediate concern was her participation in this weekend’s dual bday party.  Re-introducing her (again) into the story and then a few weeks later saying “so long…, farewell” didn’t seem in the best interest of the kiddos.  Additionally, I got really concerned about her location delaying the whole rest of the process.  24 hours later I’m still not 100% sure how all this will shake out, but bio mom is not invited to this weekend’s visit.  So I think that’s good news for the kids.  Bio dad is meeting with his lawyer prior to the dual bday party to sign over his rights.  Please pray he follows through this weekend.

We told the kiddos this morning about this weekend’s trip to Legoland.  We told them we had coupons (true story) and wanted to take them again.  They were super excited.  I was en route to pick the kiddos up from school this afternoon and the rest of the day was a recipe for a mommy meltdown.  When I noticed the amount of time between my travel and getting the kiddos’ to their play therapy appointment was not enough time to also pull them from their classes and make a potty break, I called the pre-school and asked for their help.  As a woman, I was proud of myself for actually asking for help.  Then, I arrived at school and was a little surprised my kiddos weren’t waiting in the front office for me.  “Oh, well,” I thought.  Maybe they are just a few feet away.  Wrong.  The super sweet administrator got side tracked and my kids were just merrily playing with their friends in separate play grounds.  “No big deal”, I thought and told her.  She helped me gather my kids and get them out the door with empty bladders.  As I was walking out of school big brother grabbed his show and tell from his cubby.  The thought crossed my mind that little sister had brought an stuffed animal but I was already running late, so I exited the children to my car hoping she wouldn’t notice.  I was just a few moments into the car, kids almost buckled and she noticed.  I told her her animal (a red monkey she calls Curious George) could sleep at school and we’d pick him up tomorrow.  Tears.  Wailing.  Then she told me I forgot him.  By the grace of God, I kindly set her straight.  I asked whose responsibility it was to bring home her show and tell.  She said hers.  I asked who forgot the animal and she said her.  Again, I felt a minor victory in keeping my peace of mind.

Then… walking into play therapy big brother says his eyes hurt.  Both kids have had a little eye discharge yesterday and this morning and given their sneezing and watery eyes, I wrote it off as allergies.  Short of a long story, I took the kids to two different clinics (the first one had filled up spots for the night… yet another set back) and was thankful to find a warm and welcoming facility with competent professionals after a year of trial and failure.  However, I think I about lost it when I had to say last names within ear shot of the kids and I had to repeat to 3 different people that I’m a f-o-s-t-e-r mom.  At one point I was asked if  “their parents” had xyz health concerns.  A little public education here… please use “bio parents” instead of “their parents” because my husband and I are their parents.

Back to the story… big brother was diagnosed with pink eye.  I explained using a lot of spelled words to the medical provider the importance of keeping bio visit on Saturday, and she decided that little sister might be on the brink of getting it, too.  So eye drops and an antibiotic for both children it is with the hope that no one is contagious come Saturday morning.

We stopped at Steak ‘n Shake on the way from the doctor and … yep.. you guessed it our order was delayed.  Again… let’s keep the cool.

Then I get to the pharmacy… I tell you I adore the staff… and the woman doesn’t even ask names just comes back with meds and confirms their first names.  We’ve seen each other before.  What a breath of fresh air.  I tell her how grateful I am for them being open so late and we talk a little about our story and she tells me there was a hiccup with the prescriptions but she was able to talk to urgent care even though they were closed and she sorted everything out.  PRAISE GOD.

So here’s praying that pink eye goes away and doesn’t spread around our housefor if us adults get it, Saturday’s visit isn’t gonna happen and we all know we want it to get that checked off the list.

And to all a good night. I’m so ready for Friday!
