2 victories & 2 brainstorms
Our licensing worker called today out of the blue and said she had a resource that can do big brother’s eval for FREE (Medicaid provider). Oh, and the opening is tomorrow afternoon. I had no idea she was trying to work a different solution. I quickly looked at my calendar and said I’ll make that work! When I called to cancel the private resource the scheduler was thrilled to hear why we were canceling.
Then… I got word about the therapist/social worker conversation. The social worker totally agrees that this weekend should be a joint Bday celebration. And May 9 should be a much shorter goodbye visit. Yay!
Also… from what I was told today, the social worker is projecting a July/August adoption court hearing. I’m hoping for June/July but August is fine.
The May 9 goodbye visit is my focus right now. I’m trying to think of how to support the kids post visit. What activity should we do? We have the loooong drive home and I’d rather stay the night back in our home to bring them back to familiarity. We have Legoland passes so we could take a break on the drive home. How do we hold their hearts the whole way home and help them grieve yet help them move on? This will likely be a discussion topic with the therapist. But I also welcome your ideas.
And in terms of the adoption celebration… my husband and I have been planning for a Chuck E Cheese celebration since last year. You see, one of our wedding vows – that we’ve kept every year so far – is to go to Chuck E Cheese and play skee ball. (Yes, they let you in without kids. No questions asked. Incase you were wondering…) Anyhow the kids have never been to Chuck E Cheese and we have never redeemed our tickets. We want to take big brother and little sister to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate being adopted and let them redeem our tickets. Here’s where I need your help. Last fall I contacted Chuck E Cheese to rent out the whole space for a few hours and they told me they don’t do that. I’m a firm believer that rules are sometimes merely guidelines. I think there has to be a way to get the space to the kids and throw a big celebration. Ideas?
